What happens when a young couple loves cycling, they love beer and they love each other? They start the Peddler Brewing Company at the edge of Ballard's old historic district. When owners Dave and Haley were dating they would often go on long bicycle trips and yearn for a good beer at the end of the ride. Turns out that Dave was an avid home brewer and Haley wanted to start her own business, so they combined their passions and started Peddler in 2013. Now there is a place for bicycle lovers, beer lovers and lovers of all kinds at Peddler.
As soon as you arrive at Peddler you know this is a fun and unique brewery. The large beer garden in the back has plenty of picnic tables and there is plenty of room for the family dog and the kids to run around. The wall of broken bikes, the bike chains embedded in the concrete counter tops and the rows of bikes lined up out front show that this is a bicycle friendly space. But these folks walk the walk, or rather, ride the ride. Peddler Brewing Company is dedicated to building community through bicycling and advocating for safer streets and better bike infrastructure. Take a look at Haley's video. In fact, you may see Dave's younger brother Mike delivering kegs of beer on his bicycle.
Of course Peddler welcomes everyone, even if you don't ride a bike. They always have 12 taps up that always include at least one nitro and a guest cider as well as their regular brews such as, Pedal Strike Pale, On Your Left IPA and Tangerine Hefeweizen. Throughout the year they will feature seasonal brews and usually carry a variety of styles including stouts, IPAs and Imperial IPAs, Belgians, Saisons, and Aged Sours. Peddler doesn't have a kitchen but the Cycle Dogs food truck (100% Vegan street fare and elaborate hot dogs!) is usually parked out back and you are welcome to bring in food from their next door neighbor, Mean Sandwich. This is a great place to visit on our tour or on your own.
