Based in the heart of Ballard’s Brewing District, Obec Brewing is an integral part of the Craft Brewing Community. Obec (pronounced obez or obetz) is a Czech word for community. Owners Wayne and Stacey have long been involved with the Czech Republic, the Czech Community and Czech Beer. Known for its Czech inspired beers such as a pilsner, a Czech Dark, and granat they also feature a line of excellent IPAs, porters, English Ales and Belgian beers. On the side of the brewery you will see a large mural by artist and former Obec taproom server Jorand Atkinson. Presented in the style of the Czech Art Nouveau painter Alphonse Mucha, the mural ties in the themes of brewing, community, Bohemia and the Pacific Northwest.

Large groups will be seated in the large, covered patio where they will sample a variety of amazing Seattle Craft beers. After the presentation your guide will be able to take smaller groups back to the brewery where they will learn the basic process of brewing beer. On the same block Obec’s neighbors include Stoup Brewing and Urban Family Brewing. Within three blocks you can visit Reuben’s Brews, Lucky Envelope Brewing and Wheeliepop Brewing.

Stoup is a word for a drinking vessel from Northern England and Scotland, and was founded by a chemist, a biology teacher and a gastronome. This is one of the fastest growing breweries in the Ballard Brewing District. Their award-winning Mosaic Pale Ale, NW Red, Robust Porter and Citra IPA are almost always available, with another 10 to 15 seasonal brews constantly being rotated through the taproom.

A large upstairs taproom can accommodate up to 40 people for a sit-down beer tasting. Large windows facing the west open to a balcony overlooking their Beer Garden. Please note that there is no elevator to this space and is not appropriate for mobility challenged guests. Urban Family Brewing is just across the street and Obec Brewing is just down the street. Within three blocks you can visit Reuben’s Brews, Lucky Envelope Brewing and Wheeliepop Brewing.
